What’s Your Size?

Congratulations, you've proposed! It's now time to find yourself a special wedding ring that fits perfectly...

The sizing of your wedding ring is the most important factor. Remember, you’re wearing the wedding band for the rest of your life, so comfort is crucial. The smallest things will change the size of your finger — from the heat of your hands to what time you visit the jewellery store. So let’s take a look into your lifestyle, and hopefully by the end of this blog, you’ll be on your way to finding the perfect size.

When it comes to choosing your wedding band, here are some useful tips to keep in mind.

The ring is going on your hand, which is constantly being used. Are you an active person; is your job very physical?

Also, the weather will affect the size of your finger; a little more swollen in the summer, a little looser in the winter. This is due to heat and body temperature.

What food and drink did you eat yesterday? Did you know that alcohol in any form could cause fluid retention in your hands? Fluid tends to accumulate in your hands and feet because fluid travels downhill; alcohol initially leads to dehydration. When you are dehydrated your body tries to conserve fluid. A salty snack you may consume whilst drinking could also contribute to swollen hands.

Are your fingers thick? Do you have larger joints? Ask your jeweller about comfort fit. Rounder fingers generally size better with bands that have a slight comfort fit (rounded on the inside of the band).

Also, consider the width of the band. A wider band such as 7mm or 9mm has to be very well adjusted to your finger, whereas a thinner band is easier to put on and take off.

All in all, wearing a ring can be a new thing for many men and like everything, it takes time to adjust to wearing everyday.

Remember: Not every design can be sized, so it is best to ask questions and get professionally sized at your local jewellers. If the ring doesn’t come off, rest assured — all precious metal rings, including Platinum, Gold (White, Red, and Yellow), Palladium, and even Carbon Fibre can be cut open in an emergency.
